Chair of the Transmission Technology Board and Vegetation Management Workflow Owner
Steve Russell is Chair of the Transmission Technology Board and the Vegetation Management Workflow Owner for the development of advanced work management technology. During his 34-year career with Duke Energy, Steve has worked in a wide variety of leadership roles; including engineering, field operations and construction, finance, forecasting, scheduling, outage management and dispatching operations, metering, and corporate compliance and ethics. Steve also served as assistant to two of Duke Power’s presidents where he managed the office of the president and worked on a wide variety of special projects both internal and external to Duke Energy.
Steve’s education includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University and a Masters of Business Administration from Elon University. Steve is a registered Professional Engineer and a Certified Scrum Product Owner.
In his current role as Vegetation Management Workflow Owner, Steve has overall responsibility for the development and deployment of advanced machine learning and optimization technology to predict vegetation growth within transmission line corridors and create optimized workplans and work schedules which minimize risk and cost while optimizing system reliability and crew productivity.
