601: Leveraging Data Analytics for Renewable Energy Contracting & Valuation

Renewable generation is non-dispatchable and highly variable, making renewable assets and power purchase agreements (PPAs) notoriously difficult to manage over the long-term. Both value and risk depend on complex real-time interactions between renewable resource availability (sun, wind) and electricity market prices. In this talk, we present new data- and analytics-driven methodologies for assessing and tracking renewable PPA and asset value.

Key takeaways include:

  • What to look for when simulating the interactions between generation and price.
  • An understanding of the “uncertainty magnification effect” and its effect on renewable value and risk.
  • An understanding of new PPA contract structures and risk mitigation methodologies.
