304: Microgrid Control and Analytics Through Hardware in the Loop Test Using RTDS

Microgrids, as a small-scale power system with the ability of supplying independently in islanded or grid connected mode, offers a variety of benefits both to the end-users and the distribution system itself. As part of Bronzeville Community Microgrid (BCM) project, a microgrid controller is being developed, tested and will be deployed into the field by the end of this year. The controller will address the inherent uncertainty of solar PV in both grid-connected and islanded mode through Microgrid integrated solar storage technology (MISST) functionalities. In addition, the controller will have the capability of clustering with neighboring microgrid(s). The project is supported by two grants awarded by the Department of Energy. This presentation will focus on the microgrid control and analytics through hardware in the loop test using RTDS.
